Royal Mail delays mean People in West Dunbartonshire are worried their online Christmas shopping will not be delivered in time because of a "huge backlog" of letters and parcels at the Royal Mail, according to reports.

The Lennox Herald said many families face an "anxious wait" for gifts after recent snow and freezing temperatures meant deliveries were scrapped.

One mum told the newspaper that she had bought a lot of her Christmas shopping via the internet at the start of the month to make sure it arrived in time for the 25th.

"I have had emails to say the items have been dispatched but they aren't here and I have had no information on when they will be," she added.

The publication noted that the postcode area covering Dumbarton and the Vale of Helensburgh was one of the worst hit in Scotland by last week's snowfall.

Paul Kelly, Royal Mail's director of operations north of the border, said a "range of measures" has been implemented to get deliveries out as soon as possible.

Elsewhere, the Burton Mail reported earlier this week that residents of the Staffordshire town have been forced to queue up to collect letters and parcels themselves after severe weather disrupted postal services.
