Sorting office closure 'would leave void in community'- myHermes Parcel Delivery NewsDelivery company Royal Mail's plans to close a sorting office in Milford Haven would cause a great deal of damage to the local community, a county councillor has warned.

Town and county councillor Anne Hughes told the Milford and West Wales Mercury the removal of the service from Robert Street to the Merlins Bridge base would "leave a great void in the culture of a once busy and vibrant community".

A petition is being circulated to protest against the decision, with Royal Mail representatives planning to meet Milford councillors in order to discuss the proposed changeover.

Ms Hughes explained that the office provided both some employment and a service which is desperately needed for the area.

The final decision on the move is likely to be made next month.

Royal Mail were recently forced to charge an employee, Bernard Mumbaya-Kimbing, with theft after he was caught rifling through donations intended for charity, reports the Daily Mail.
