M-commerce 'drives online Christmas shopping'- myHermes Parcel Delivery NewsPeople using online auction site eBay to order parcels for UK couriers to deliver are increasingly accessing the site through their smartphones, it has been claimed.

It handled ten per cent of its transactions through phones this month and sold one item a minute over mobile during its peak shopping period, reports the Guardian.

The eBay mobile app, which facilitates the use of smartphones to order parcels from the site, has been downloaded 50 million times.

A spokeswoman for the internet shopping giant said: "We're seeing our mobile business grow in triple digits at the moment so mobile sales as a proportion of overall UK sales are likely to have increased significantly."

The company has predicted that purchases made from mobiles will rise by 150 per cent globally at the end of the year.

BBC internet expert Olly Mann recently predicted that multi-channel retailing and the use of smartphones to shop over the internet will encourage more people to get involved in the world of e-commerce.
