Royal Mail is currently paying out £1 million every four weeks to customers as a result of delayed, damaged or lost mail, it has emerged, settling over 1,000 complaints regarding missing post each day.
It was also seen that 142 claims a day are paid out for delayed packages and chief executive of the TaxPayers Alliance Matthew Elliot noted that such statistics "paint a picture of chaos, incompetence and confusion" at the postal service.
In addition, it transpired that for the previous fiscal year, Royal Mail awarded payouts for 600,885 complaints, a climb of nine per cent on the preceding 12 months.
And rude employees also cost the business a total of £3,431, with 56 members of the public being successful in cases against them.
This comes after it was recently announced that Royal Mail will be increasing its stamp prices for first and second-class mail in April, with a hike of 2p being brought in.
