UK courier services and other companies which make use of fleet technology in their day-to-day business will have been buoyed by the government's decision to extend the plug-in car grant, an expert has claimed.

Dr Ben Lane of Next Green Car, an independent advisory website on environmentally-friendly vehicles, said the industry had expected the government to extend the grant but it was relieved to be given confirmation of this.

He added that it is pleasing the grant has been extended to vans such as the Renault Kangoo ZE.

"The reason it makes sense is that most of the applications for the plug-in car grant have actually come from fleets, many of which include light duty vehicles," explained Dr Lane.

Under the terms of the plug-in car grant, businesses and individuals planning to buy an electric vehicle are offered up to £5,000 in order to stimulate trade and encourage people to adopt the eco-friendly cars and vans.
